Sewing Factory

Pukekohe . Built 2021
Design Team: Jann Hurley, Emma Hunt
Engineers: TD Structures

Refurbishment of a 1940s unreinforced masonry building to modern offices. This building has had many former uses, originally being a sewing factory, complete with power points still in the floor and featuring an enclosed area for staff bike parking at the rear (you'd green star points for that these days). The owners wanted to retain as much of the original character as possible, taking great care to bring the structure up to a compliant standard with minimal impact. Features such as the timber floors and exposed trusses were preserved and enhanced, clerestory glazing has also been preserved to bring a wonderful amount of non-direct light into the spaces. The result is one now of the most desirable office locations in Pukekohe.
